RIP Alan Blundell

We are very sad to report that our club member Alan Blundell died unexpectedly on Wednesday 27th January. Alan had the lovely SS Jaguar Old No. 8 Replica which he built some years ago. He has raced at our November Classic a couple of times and in 2020 at our January Drivers' Training Day Bill Denize reports that he was lucky enough to go out with Alan in the SS for a few circuits around the Manfeild track. It was a beautifully built car and he had a number of Jags in his collection of cars. Several years ago the OSH Group enjoyed a very pleasant few hours over drinks and a BBQ at Alan and Marie's lovely home (since sold) they had on the hills above Waikanae where they had extensive workshop facilities for all his car projects. Alan was a very clever engineer. He will be much missed on club events.

Forthcoming Events

April 2021

Wednesday 7th April

Noggin N Natter

Venue, The Backbencher Gastropub, 34 Molesworth St, Thorndon, Wellington (Opposite the Beehive)

Time: 5.30pm for 6.00pm

We will have the use of a small room immediately to the left of the Murphy Street entrance. There are a couple of steps up to the lounge area and our room is behind the glass doors to the left.

This month we have Laki Tzitziras from Absolute Upholstery talking about the work they have done on a range of vehicles over the years. This is a great opportunity for you to get answers to all those upholstery questions you have been accumulating over the years.

Sunday 11th April

Cecil Kimber Run

This is scheduled to be a picnic at the property of Brian and Julie Pope, near Masterton (in the event of unsuitable weather there is a backup plan).

The picnic plan calls for the now usual meet at the Aston Norwood cafe. Arrive when you want to, to allow for breakfast or coffee but please be ready to leave around about 10.15, although there will be no need to travel in a convoy.

There will be a scenic route to Masterton, avoiding SH2 as much as possible and heading out west. It will be an ideal opportunity to test the viability of the proposed run on the 10th May which will rely on 'what3words' navigation. Mrs Captain and I have been trying it out. You will need the App on your mobile and we will hand out full info before the April run. If you don't have a suitable mobile, simply follow somebody that does. A navigator is probably essential. It's quite fascinating.

Note that the April run can be done without the use of 'what3words'. Old fashioned analogue instructions will also be available.

ETA Brian and Julie's should be just before 12.00. Bring your own picnic gear, hampers, champers and banquets. Hot water for coffee/tea will be available courtesy of Brian and Julie, as will the use of the toilet (I hasten to add!).

For planning purposes I would appreciate numbers before the end of next week (Friday 9th) although last minute attendees will not be a problem.
